EconomistsThe Economics Department at Strathclyde University offers the MSc Economic Management and Policy, a distance MSc in Economics programme of professional training for those practising as, or aiming to be, an applied economist in public or private sector organisations.

Next start date: January 2010

The Open Learning programme is delivered with full interactive tutor support by means of a Moodle-based Virtual Learning Environment. Study for the degree is completely flexible and entirely online, with no attendance at Strathclyde being required.

The MSc EMP degree is Recommended by the UK Government Economic Service, currently the only postgraduate economics degree programme to receive that recognition.

In progressing towards completion of the MSc, students will undertake the following:

Postgraduate Certificate in Economic Management and Policy
Four "core" classes make up the first stage of the masters programme (and lead to the Certificate in EMP): Microeconomic Management and Policy ; Macroeconomic Environment; Data Handling and Analysis; Integrative Economics.

Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Management and Policy
In the next stage four elective classes are taken, leading to the Diploma award. A very wide range of elective classes is available. You may choose to specialise in one of the four pathways offered, or pursue a more general route.

MSc in Economic Management and Policy
Finally, the MSc is attained by completion of the Final Project, a substantial piece of applied economic analysis that will usually be linked to your work experience or career intentions.

The recent review of Economics teaching at Strathclyde by the Quality Assurance Agency has given us the highest possible rating in each category. The Strathclyde University Business School has achieved EQUIS and AACSB International accreditation, making it one of only 27 business schools world-wide to have achieved recognition from the two leading accreditation bodies for business schools.
